The message I received from Comcast is below. It is non clear to me how "xFi Avant-garde Security" fits into an overall security blueprint. I await I will uninstall Norton and actuate Defender. Whatsoever other thoughts?

I recently started a topic headed Net Security Providers #2307999 at https://world wide web.askwoody.com/forums/topic/cyberspace-security-providers/#post-2308001 that addressed the loss of Norton Security Suite that was provided free by Comcast.

The conclusion of the topic was, "Give thanks y'all all for contributing to our search for a new Cyberspace Security Provider.

Based upon your input, ESET Net Security received the most positive response followed by Bitdefender Internet Security, Norton 360 Deluxe, and Windows Defender.

Avast Premium Security and AVG Cyberspace Security were nonstarters."

Comcast Xfinity is being confusing equally tin can exist about this. When y'all expect at the details, they claim to exist discontinuing free Norton Net Security Only if yous rent one of their rent an Xfinity xFi Gateways. Hullo guys brand new to the forums here – thanks so much to everyone who's posted hither, this is the only website I've plant that addresses whether or non one is actually losing Norton if you're an xfinity subscriber come January 1st 2021

I read and understood the previous posts on malwarebytes cheers for that likewise but – given I merely spent $85 on 3 years of Norton protection, mayhap unnecessarily (rolls eyes at himself) on amazon's blackness friday sales specials I gauge I'm stuck with Norton for the fourth dimension being at to the lowest degree 🙂 …

I tried logging into the norton account that Xfinity made me create years ago and surprisingly equally of today (Jan 1st 2021) information technology even so lists my Norton subscription as active… I practice have my own modem rather than renting the one from Xfinity (works swell, kick myself for existence scared for so long and non just buying 1 immediately like I should have when I switched to Xfinity/Comcast).

And then I'm scratching my head here trying to effigy out what to do … volition Norton be kind enough to notify me if my subscription suddenly becomes "not active" and it's no longer providing updated protection?  Should I simply continue to quietly use Xfinity's free (for now patently) Norton Security?  Or should I not take any risks, uninstall Xfinity's gratis security right now and install the Norton subscription I paid for this past November 2020 (Blackness Fri sales)?     Once more please bear in mind I'yard stuck with Norton anyways since I already paid for three years worth of it 🙂  ($35 a yr for 20 devices, bought two of those codes from amazon, plus $15 from newegg actually for one year for the desktop PC'south – phones were already covered by paid Norton I purchased previously).

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated – and once more thank you so much to all of you, I would have had no idea what was going on if someone hadn't started this thread then connected it 🙂 ..

Thanks to y'all both for posting Paul T and anonymous 🙂 … I  googled it and obviously Norton just flat out stops working when it decides the subscription has expired merely was still a scrap nervous given the unusual circumstances here with Comcast/Xfinity and it's reassuring to see a MVP confirm this 🙂

Another update… today is January 2nd 2021 and Norton from Comcast/Xfinity STILL let me do a live update and is still working… so I'grand not sure if I but personally got lucky or if people who bought their own modems in full general slipped under the radar temporarily (or permanently?)…

I will post any changes (whether or not free Norton from Comcast/Xfinity stops working) on this thread in example this helps anyone… this thread/post pops up in a google search even if yous're non a fellow member of the askwoody forum so…Woody thank you for creating the forum in the start place and kstephens thanks for starting the thread and of course thanks to everyone who posted 🙂

kstephens I experience like I owe you an apology I think I hijacked your post 🙁 … it started out as a "discover a suitable replacement for the norton that comcast/xfinity is taking away" and turned into " Hey Norton is nonetheless working what should I do?"  (though I guess the two are related so hopefully this helps?) .. just my apologies 🙁 ..

But (I know I know I repent then I keep the hijacking 😛 ) … I'yard beginning to think (even if Comcast/Xfinity doesn't say this out loud) that they are going to only quietly let existing Norton installations stand/continue and simply deny the installation of Norton onto new devices or the devices of new customers who join comcast/xfinity.

This is definitely groan-worthy for people like me who only bought $lxx worth of Norton security it'south beginning to wait similar I'll never accept to use 😛  (can notwithstanding use the $fifteen buy for the phones/tablet come October when the current license runs out).. but in the long run worth it in not having to spend $35 a twelvemonth (at least) for all the household devices is good if comcast/xfinity just continues to keep ignoring (non cancelling) existing Norton installations.

Once again I should point out I have purchased my ain modem/router and then I don't know if that makes a divergence and persons who hire a modem from Comcast/Xfinity had their Norton cancelled as of Jan 1st 2021.  Roger if y'all don't mind me asking, exercise you lot rent a modem from Comcast/Xfinity or accept you purchased your own one?

I bought my own modem/router and as of today 01/05/2021 my Norton still functional. I also purchased their special offer for $14.99/12 months' subscription and am thinking if I should request refund for it.

This is good to know that one other person in addition to myself (with their ain modem) is reporting that Norton is nevertheless working thanks for this 🙂   … it would be interesting to encounter if someone who is renting a modem from Comcast/Xfinity still has Norton up and running as well.

Apologies if I'm stating something you've already washed 🙂  but… did you requite them your credit card info?  Norton has a nasty habit of forcing this info from customers (terrible stuff) just to get Norton upwardly and running only information technology's easy to accept that credit card info right off your norton account right after you've inputted it 🙂

I am using a Comcast-practical modem, only the Norton bargain had nothing to do with that.  Before, I used my  (outdated) modem, and still got Norton.

Fifty-fifty if Norton has your credit card information, information technology would be a violation of both Federal and state police force if they charged you without your permission.  In addition, you could disavow the "purchase" with your card provider.  Credit card providers are very sensitive about charges that are illegitimate, because in the cease, the police is stacked against them, and they end up eating the amount themselves.  Norton would be unable to provide proof that yous authorized the charge, because you didn't.  If they were to allege that you authorized the charge (and y'all had not), and then that would constitute a felony.

As I recall, when I signed on with Comcast and got Norton (free), I did not provide a credit card number (nor would I for a free item).  At any rate, that was years agone, and any card I  would have provided at that time would have expired.  Without a current bill of fare, they would not be allowed to charge the card.  If the card company authorized the employ of an expired card, and then the card company is liable for any disputed charges.

Thanks Kstephens this is good to know 🙂 … and yes, very true yous tin can dispute the charges through your credit card company… since I'g the paranoid sort though 😛  I withal removed my credit card info from my norton account immediately right after they forced me to enter it (in this case it was for a paid norton subscription for my phones, Comcast/Xfinity basically said "nope we won't install onto your android phones" dorsum when I tried it , albeit many years ago)

I've been watching this thread for updates as I'one thousand using a rented modem from Comcast (it'due south an older one though, they proceed request to replace it with a new one but those overheat) and my Norton still works.

Elsewhere on the web others have mentioned that the subscription volition probably expire at the stop of Jan like whatever other. Not sure if Comcast merely goofed up on that January 1st stop date or what, simply I do know back in December I got a notification that my Norton subscription would terminate soon.

I am using my own modem ,  My norton business relationship has Both "Norton 360 Online from Xfinity" and "Norton Security Online",   7 License allowance from "Norton 360 Online",  5 License allowance from  "Norton Security Online".

Ii bearding posters cheers so much that is helpful info 🙂 .. and aye that actually happened to me too on Win ten – well sort of, on one Win 10 PC it gives the message "Xfinity no longer offers Norton Security Online" and on the other Win 10 PC it does not give that message – but on both PC'south Norton even so works.. it volition be interesting to see whether or not Xfinity/Comcast just shuts Norton downwards completely as of end of January or afterwards or if they just keep it going…

And yeah, I actually know a fellow Xfinity customer who had the aforementioned experience, the seven licenses that customer was allowed way back before Xfinity insisted said customer had to open a norton account still worked – so that lucky person had 7 licenses from before plus the 5 licenses from opening a Norton account 🙂 … So that makes me wonder if Norton volition just continue working indefinitely as long as you lot leave the license and the Windows install it'southward on alone.

Well the axe has dropped – today (January 12th 2021 ) Norton stopped working on my computers, fortunately I had i of my paid norton subscriptions I got back during Black Friday ready to go… anonymous cheers for that link I second that, if you don't use the norton removal tool before reinstalling Norton I tin adjure from personal experience you're in for a world of headache and from what I understand absolutely , if you're using some antivirus / security plan other than Norton this can also create a lot of headaches if Norton isn't uninstalled completely from your PC.

Then I approximate my amazon purchases will go to employ later all.. though I'k merely shaking my head at what I perceive to be corporate greed on Comcast/Xfinity'due south role… I guess it's possible they're losing coin with everyone at abode on the internet due to covid simply I tin can't help merely wonder if it'southward the opposite… if this somehow works to their advantage… maybe more people signing upwards for higher speed internet?

I totally agree. In this time of demand for cyber protection they no longer back up this product. That is poor customer relations. Instead of advertizement they practise this they just remove it.

Rethinking my service with that other content provider.

Well I've noticed on the cyberspace that there is a LOT of debate almost what is and is not a good antivirus/security software suite, if Norton is fifty-fifty necessary 🙂   .. looks like there's a fence hither too 🙂 .. I'k just grateful for all the kind people who post here and volunteer this helpful info 🙂

As far as I know if you switch over to AT&T they even so provide gratis antivirus/security software (McAfee) which PCMag claims is pretty good though not as skilful as Norton … but then I've seen online likewise from various sources the argument that Windows Defender paired with say Malwarebytes volition do just fine (PC Mag says Kaspersky Security Cloud Free is their top selection for gratis antivirus but I'1000 not a security IT software expert type guy past any means 😛 ) …

I recently purchased Norton 360 and I can no longer receive or ship Comcast emails on my Apple devices.   Norton tech guy told me to alter my vpn location state from USA to Canada and my emails work, But I can't store for local to my home equally I only go search issue for places in Canada.  This has been a NIGHTMARE,   15-20 calls  to Norton to try and resolve and I am waiting fro a call up from a level 2 tech in their Apple tree Department.     Anyone have suggestions for a good vpn and antivirus company for Apple tree devices & Comcast Net?

ESET works well.  We have used it on 8 computers for a year or so.  I'd recommend just the AV vs. their Internet Suite.  Y'all need an AV and a firewall; Windows Firewall is fine, has enough granularity for virtually everyone and also has a simple set of switches to block specific programs, such equally Edge (Allow a programme through firewall…)

ESET's suite is fine but has and then many settings and features I wound up turning off that I was almsot back to only the AV.  Information technology uses Windows Firewall, then builds on information technology.

Mostly, I tend to avoid suites, too many layers tend to fight each other.  Never did completely understand all of Kaspersky Suite'south settings, seems there are hundreds!
