  • "What could be better than a dinosaur on a beach? Scott Brick describing the dinosaur, that's what. We're in luck, then, equally Brick performs his usual magic with ferocious beasts, mad scientists, and mere mortals in this bestselling sequel to Jurassic Park…Brick delivers the novel's science and pseudoscience in a clipped, authoritative manner that makes information technology all accessible. He offers fun vocal portraits of the characters, including enthusiastic kids and a reedy-voiced crazy paleontologist. And when it comes to action—pow!—he'due south all in. " Crichton's books remain like gourmet potato chips - above the level of the average "Techno Thriller" but non exactly State of war and Peace either. One benefit of condign a member here was that "Lost World" popped up when browsing. I thought I'd read or listened to every Crichton novel - but wrong I was. I'd put Lost Earth in the middle of the pack for quality - but if you like Crichton that'southward expert plenty. The characters are all there - the very bad villain, some adult heroes (including the necessary good looking woman scientist) and a couple of calculator-geek kids. And of form the Dinos - lots of them. As y'all can imagine the Dinos managed to cull the human herd - but - (spoiler alarm) the kids aren't eaten. Crichton's books vary profoundly in the in the plausibility level of the science in "scientific "fiction." This book, like say Timeline or Jurassic Park, autumn into the 'pure fiction" area. That said Crichton was very brilliant and understands some "what ifs" about cloning living things. Only if you want scientific discipline, read Stephen Hawking. If you want a cracking read/listen, get Lost World. "

Seriously both Jurassic Park and The Lost Globe are good primers for the on-the-fence science-minded nerd. They're both strong parables that assist define and refine the discriminating and skeptical listen. Stepping stones if you lot will. "
